01 bear tracker 250..not getting enough fuel?
DirtDemon replied to ssupercoolss's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
Good to hear, ride on my friend. -
It might be possible to get it up to that speed with those mods, but like bot said, those are pretty basic mods, and not really sufficient to pull the tall gearing needed to get up to 90mph, and therefore accleleration and low end rideability are severely comprimised. I have a 90mph quad, and you need alot more power than that to properly handle that tall of gearing.

First thing I would do is clean the carb and check for proper float adjsutment, make sure your air filter is clean and oiled. What do your spark plugs look like?

1993 Kawasaki Bayou 400 stall and wont start

Your CDI unit may be going out, when it won't start, check to see if you ar getting any spark. It could also be the coil wire/spark plug boot. -
1994 Polaris 400 Sportsman Engine Problems

Find the actuator, and test it manually by applying voltage directly to the leads. If it does not respond replace it, if it does, inspect the circuit that operates it, look for loose or broken connections/wires and check any grounds. Fuses? -
1994 polaris sportsman project

I moved this thread to the project room. Where did you get that paint you used, I am very interested in hearing how it works out for you. -
I certainly hope that his recovery goes well, good to hear that things are going well considering how much worse it could be.

01 bear tracker 250..not getting enough fuel?

On most carbs, there are five spots for the cirlip on the needle. Move the clip down to richen, up to make it lean. However, I couldn't see any grooves on the needle in the diagram. So?? At any rate, I would rebuild the carb and make extra sure that you have cleaned out EVERY little orifice in the carb and go from there. Check the floats and the fuel lines/petcock as well. -
I would check the timing and valve clearances before I take it back to the shop just to make sure. If those are ok, then I would look to the jetting, and there I would agree with ATV mech in that it sounds fuel starved, meaning that you would need to go to a bigger main jet. Weather or not you want to bother with taking it to the shop or not is up to you, personally, I would choose to deal with it myself, jetting is easy enough, but some people don't like to deal with it so...

I wouldn't bother, you can get a new piston and rings, and put a fresh bore on the cylinder for around $200 maybe less. If you have to take it apart, you might as well make sure you don't have to it again for a while.

Damn, that sounds miserable, like riding with a hangover.

Well, how are things?

1994 Polaris 400 Sportsman Engine Problems

1. inspect your clutch assembly, ignition timing, and carb. 2. check the mounts, ignition timing and carb. 3. again, the clutch. 4. if none of the other suggestions work, drill a hole in the stud and use an easy-out, make sure to use plenty of penetrating lubricant, i recommend PB Blaster, also, a sharp rap on the stud with a hammer before you attempt to remove it may help shock the threads loose. 5. fix the ehaust and go from there, keep in mind, if it is actually oil on the motor and not just carbon buildup, and it is coming from the exhaust leak, that indicates that you are getting oil in the combustion area, which is an indication that you may have worn piston, rings, cylinder bore or valves. -
Very good looking ride, nice pics. Those bars are really up there, are you a giant?

The Outlaw 525 is a fast machine but it would get eaten by 450's on a track because of the weight issue, and the IRS does not allow for the same kind of maneuvering that you would need to win on an MX track. In a drag race, I think it would keep up with anything out there with the exception of the KTM and the Outlaw S, which use the same motor and a solid axle rear end, so they are alot lighter. It is an excellent trail machine, and like I said the ride is incredible, that is without a doubt the machine I would choose if I needed something that was kinder to my aching body.
-
Agreed, the two little filters look cool and I wouldn't think they are hurting anything. However, you will need to check the inside of the crankcase breather occasionally and make sure it doesn't get clogged with oil.
-
That is good to hear, do you feel complete again?
-
That was kind of my point, that a dirtbike with a motor half the size is nearly as fast as a quad with way more power.
-
For a person who is feeling beat and wants something that is a little easier on the body, I would highly recommend the Polaris Outlaw IRS or the Honda 700xx. I have ridden the Outlaw and the ride is amazingly plush. You can find the old Outlaw 500 used pretty easily, the 525 or the Honda not so much. Like most Polaris atv's, the Outlaw is quite ugly, but you can't beat it for comfort. Anything with independent rear suspension will be heavier, but the ride is incredible and gentle.

Yeah, you might want to check out a couple other sport quads besides the Raptor 350. Going from a rather quick machine like a CR 250F to a much slower machine like a Raptor 350 or Wolverine might be disapointing. A girl that I ride with rides a CR 250F, and she can almost keep up with me on my LTR 450. Granted, she is about 85 lbs. lighter than I am, but that bike is still fast. A Raptor 350 or Wolverine will be painfully slow in comparison.

I saw this same picture in the readers ride section of Dirtwheels magazine. I was going to modify that post for this thread but I moved to the wrong forum and my powers are useless here.:hitself:

From what you have told us, the Wolverine 450 would be the best choice of the quads you mentioned. If he has a little extra money to spend, the Can-Am Renegades would be ideal. Either the 500 or the 800 would have alot more power and are just better machines all around. They are spendy, but worth the extra $$ as the Wolverines and Raptor 350's are all underpowered IMO. Another thought is the Polaris Scrambler 500. They are a sport oriented 4x4 like the Wolverine and Renegade. They will be faster than the Wolverine and much less expensive than the Can-Am.
