Sounds like you just don't have enough fuel in the carb bowl at low idle. You said you cleaned the carb, did you take it apart and look at the float pins and check for free flow movement?

is there an electrical switch on the gear box? Something is not engaging.

Well it sounds to me like you are not getting a hot enough spark out of the coil. Check all your cnnections and grounds (bolts to any frame connections) Even though it's new, your coil or cdi could be defective. You could have a bad plug wire, did you change that?

Thanks for the info! How is your suspension? This machine has had issues from what I rermember, with the front struts popping apart on hard bumps. Yep, 5 speed.

My buddy is offering to give me his 2002 (I think, or maybe 2001) Polaris Xpedition 425 ATV. I told him I would play around with it if I can find some spare time. I know he's beat the crap out of it, but I'm pretty sure it starts and runs. I think it needs some tires, front rack, and lights, and some other stuff. If anyone has any XPedition parts or experience, please chime in here. It'll probably be May before I get it, and if I do, it's be a new project to get it up to speed..I guess we'll see. It pretty much (from what I remember when he used to ride it) looks like:

DD, what type of synthetic oil do you use? Do you get it at the atv dealer, online or auto parts store? I've always used Valvoline ATV 4 stroke oil (not synthetic though). Valvoline.com - ATV 4-Stroke Motor Oil I've seen some dealers carry: Full Synthetic ATV oil LINK

I agree with you BB. I also think that instead of bailout, they should have let GM and AIG go bankrupt. It wouldhave killed teh GM union contracts and the company would have seen some new investors as it rebuilds. AIG is just a Giant that should fall.
