Hi guys, I'm new here and new to Arctic Cat. This is my first post. And I need help. I just got a 2007 500 4x4 manual quad that did not run. The guy that I bought it from said he just rebuilt the top end. He thought that it jumped time. I have the manual and it doesnt seem to be detailed enough. First thing I did was set valve lash. It checked good. No start... Second pulled valve cover assembly. Removed timing tensioner and chain from cam. Positioned cam and reinstalled everything per. spec. and readjusted valve lash. tried to start and presto!! It fired right up!!! It ran for about 20 seconds and died. So I started it up again and it ran for five seconds and died... I could not get it to restart. So I put it back to tdc " using stator mark" and pulled valve access covers... Zero valve lash. So I pulled the valve cover again and the cam was 90 degrees off... I repeated this process 4 times in a row with the exact same results... does anyone have any knowledgeable experiences with this kind of situation? I'm starting to think that it's a severely stretched timing chain, bad tensioner or guide, I'm also looking at the automatic decompression element of the camshaft... I am a little stumped, and any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance...

I'm going to check the valve clearance on my 2011 Grizz 700 for the first time and I'm also wanting to check the timing, but I'm not sure how to do it. What tool (light gun?) do I need for this job and how is it done?

Hi, does anyone know where to find the timing marks on the camshaft and how to orient them? I found the line on the crank and lined it up with the arrow on the case, but the only marks I can see on the cam are on the very end where the black plastic cap is. Are these the timing marks and if so how do you line them up?

I have a really dumb question. My big bear came half apart and I am not sure how the timing chain guide is supposed to sit in there. I have the entire top end cleaned, bored, new piston, gaskets, etc. I do not see anywhere in any manual or thread where it shows how the chain guide is installed or held on place????? Also should it be the same height as the other side???

I need to know timing marks for kzm 192 which is a Kazuma 500 Jaguar. I think I know how the top sprocket lines up. I believe it goes timing mark straight up (or inline with engine.) But the bottom one I haven't been able to figure anything out. A picture or drawing would be great.

i picked up a meerkat 50 and it gets great blue spark and fuel but not even so much as a spudder when turning over. so how do i check the woodruff key and set the timing. it has great compression so dont tell me to check for compression or fuel or spark cuz i got all that. so i figure it has to nbe out of time. please can someone walk me through this. I HAVE NO BOOK so please dont tell mew to look in my manual. what i need is a verbal walk through of the steps neccesary to check woodruff key and set timing propperly so i can get the bike to a running stage. please help.

for setting timing on the flywheel do you line up the line or the T to the timing notch Timing notch ------> [] Flywheel ------> l T

I know the piston has to be at TDC, but there is no marks on the cam gear. i kinda figured that when the one bolt is up the cam lobes are down, not touching the rocker arms. i want to know if this is how to do it? someone give me an answer.

a friend of mine rides nothing but honda and on a recent rebuild he read on a honda forum that a honda 450 timing chain works on 400ex! the reason for using it was because of it's double roller style design!(stronger) is this possible with an ltr 450 and a ltz 400? i'm doin a rebuild and not sure the best route. just wondering if an aftermarket chain is as strong as a stock 450 chain, if it works? just curious!!!! thanks! -Frank BTW- sorry, my bike is a 2003(early model) ltz400!

Hey, I recent attempted a rebuild on my ltz 400. Upon putting it back together(cylinder and head are on) I went to put the cam chain guide back in, but I am having trouble getting the guide in. When I put the guide in it sticks up about 2 to 3 inches, getting in the way so I cant put the cams on. Anyone know whats going on? Was I supposed to put the guide on after putting the cylinder on, before putting the head on?

Working on a quad for a friend, new to these. 2000 King Quad 300 Unit shows 1100 miles. Low compression, tore down, needs piston & rings, cyl bored, rockers & cam worn bad. Adjuster on timing chain is all the way out, still had enough play to get chain off cam gear. Can I replace chain without removing engine or spliting case? This will make the difference as to if I procced. Also need a manual, can not seem to find one for this model on the web. Opinions, coments, sugestions? Thank You Dave

just put new valves in my 86 bayou 300 having a hard time setting the timing need some help or pics on the way to set up need help

I just bored out my 87 Bayou 300 .020 over and installed a new oversized piston and had the valves vacuum checked. With everything back together and after setting timing and cleaning carb I am having a problem with it trying to start. When the engine turns over it will pop as if it is trying to fire off but will not run. I have about 125lb compression I have fire and I sprayed fuel in carb with these it should at least try to run. The only thing I can think of is a timing issue. I have lined the cam sprocket up with klf300 and set accordingly to the to the T mark on the alternator rotor. I have taken it off and double checked it twice I have even set it one camchain link forward and then aft of the correct Top setting at the camsprocket. I have set the valves to spec. When I turn the engine over by hand the valves open and close like they should at the right interval and the piston is at top dead center when aligned with the T mark and cam sprocket are in there right positions. Can I use a timing light when I try to start the engine and check for correct timing? I read something about a timing advance not sure how that works. Is there a sure way to check exactly when the engine fires?
