Possible problem with the gear position sensor maybe. What year is this machine? -
2004 Arctic Cat 400 Auto carb problems
DirtDemon replied to Tonynj42's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
You may have some sort of fault that is causing the rev limiter to kick on, it should only be on in reverse. I would try to bypass the gear position sensor and see if that helps or try holding down the reverse override button if it has one and see if it runs any better. If the fuel leaking issue is gone, then I would think that your carb may be fine. Is your machine an auto or manual transmision? -
Yamaha Blaster = one of the best quads ever made IMO. Got a brand new grey and red '90 Blaster when for my 13th birthday. It was a great machine.

No problem, glad to hear you got it fixed.

1999 Yamaha Grizzly 600 no spark, can someone help me
DirtDemon replied to danielsingleton's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
It should roll over, but it won't start. The kill switch is usually only wired to the ignition, not the starter. -
I am not sure on the belt slack specs myself, but a dealer tech may be willing to share that info with you. Or you could always just get a repair manual, it is a good thing to have anyway. If the clutches all seem to be ok, then I would definately try replacing the belt. Good luck.

First off, I appologize that your last post went un-answered, I did not catch your post, or I would have responded sooner. Check the cylinder bore for excessive wear, if the bore is too worn or is out of round, you may need a bigger piston. Standard bore size is 66mm, you can get pistons in .5mm increments, if needed bore up to the next size. I know Wiseco makes pistons up to 68mm, hopefully, you aren't worn past that, or you may need to re-sleeve or replace the cylinder.

I recognize the name Strokedtater, are you a member of E2S? Welcome to QC by the way.

Are you having any problems that lead you to ask about the drive belt? If you aren't getting up to full speed, are experiencing what seems like some kind of slipping in the drive train, if you have to hit a higher rpm to get the machine to move, or visual signs of wear, all could be things that a worn drive belt, or sticking/slipping clutches could cause.

1991 Suzuki LT250 4WD How to install timing chain
DirtDemon replied to tssetmr's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
Someone may chime in with the answer, but I would strongly suggest just spending the money on a repair manual, there will be other info in there that you will want for this job and anything you do in the future. -
Washington and Wisconsin both begin and end with the same letter, unfortunately, we are still over 1500 miles apart, or I would totally go riding with you.

We are always glad to help, so it isn't any trouble. You have gotten a few suggestions since your last post, so let us know if any of the advise has been helpful. I am getting the feeling that you may have some kind of stator problem, could be a loose connection, or a bad part. The easiest way to find out is to use a digital multimeter and test all of the ignition components and circuits. There are direct resistance tests for most of the ignition parts, a service manual would also be a good idea, there will be directions and specs for these tests listed in the manual. Check ebay, you can get an aftermarket manual for around $30 or you can get a factory manual for around $80, either one would be well worth the money. -
HELP!!! 2000 Kawasaki Mojave won't run.
DirtDemon replied to mike13ortega's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
I would check ebay for a good used flywheel and give it a try, even if it isn't the reason that you aren't getting spark, you don't want to have that cracked one explode and ruin something else. -

Suzuki Vinson 500 4x4 2002 Carb Problems
DirtDemon replied to ccrider5733's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
Do a compression test, water does not like to compress in the cylinder, you could have blown your rings out, cold water could have bent a hot valve. I assume you cleaned or replaced the air filter? Also there are some very small holes in the carb that could still be clogged with sediment, you need to check and clean EVERY area of the carb. Lastly, check for air leaks. -
I met Jim Zorn on a school field trip, and Steve Largent at an autograph signing in a Safeway parking lot. That was quite a while ago. They wooped our asses when we went to Denver. Nate Burleson, Mo Morris, Will Heller, Lawrence Jackson and Julian Peterson all ex-Seahawks, now Detroit Lions.

The Seattle Seahawks made history today by becoming the first team in NFL to win a division with a losing record, 7-9 and hosting a playoff game next week vs the Saints. Go Seahawks.

Hard to tell, I am not sure what questions you were answering there, or what you mean by "I did it and it done the same thing", or "same one that is running", what are those posts responses to? You can click the qute button at the bottom left and quote a post in your response so that we can tell which post you are answering. What you really need to do is test everything you can, spend the money, get a manual and a digital multimeter, and test the ignintion components. You can do pretty conclusive tests on everything but the CDI. There are tests for the CDI, they can tell you if it is bad, but not necessarily confirm that it is good. -
Gallery drain plug? Do you mean the oil drain plug, that you use to drain oil from the motor or something else? If it ran without oil, the extent of the damage would depend on how long the motor was running without oil, and the only real way to asses the damage, would be to take the motor apart and inspect it visually. The first thing I would do is replace the plug, fill it with oil, and do a compression test. If the compression is low then you know there is a problem. If not, drain the oil into a clean container, and check for metal shavings in the oil. If the oil is clean, that is a good indication that the damage was minimal and you can re-use the oil.

1986 Suzuki Quadsport LT 230S has a deadly bog
DirtDemon replied to chris111179's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
What year is your Quadsport? Your problem could be one of many things, possibly a problem with the CDI, could be that your valves need to be adjusted, dirty air cleaner, leaky rings or valve guides. Besides it running poorly, the fact that it is smoking is the only real indicator of a problem that we have to go on, so what color is the smoke? A couple things you could do to try and isolate the problem are; a compression test, check the valve clearances and timing, check the timing key, check the fuel tank and carb for deposits or blockages, check your air cleaner, try installing a new spark plug.
