1998 Arctic Cat 454 4x4 (Water in Engine)
DirtDemon replied to jfkkhi's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
When you get the head off, it should be fairly obvious if the gasket is the probelm. Let us know what you find, we will be glad to help you get this done. Just make sure to follow the directions to a "T" when you are removing and re-torquing the head. You will also want to check the bottom of the head and top of the cylinder to make sure there hasn't been any warpage. -
Welcome, my cousing has a KFX 450, pretty nice bike. I was tossed up between the KFX and the YFZ, when I was quad shopping, I liked the KFX because of the FI and the reverse. I ended up with an LT-R. It was a new leftover '07 when the '08's were on the floor, it ended up being the best deal. Wasn't my first choice, but I have grown to love it, don't regret it a bit.

Adjusting my vavles tomorrow, I need to get in a few good rides before I start a new job trucking crab from Forks, WA to L.A. I will be gone most of the time from Jan 3rd until sometime in March or April. Won't be getting much riding time in during that period.

HELP!!! 2000 Kawasaki Mojave won't run.
DirtDemon replied to mike13ortega's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
So, then, is does that mean the ignition would effectively be turned on if he separated the wires? What is the point of the key switch, does it open or close a circuit to turn the ignition on? -
Hi Willy. Welcome, hope that wrist heals up nice for you.

2005 Polaris Sportsman 500 Fan Replacement
DirtDemon replied to PolarisRich's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
Part # is 2410383 Babbits online parts has a new fan for $197.94. I know that is still expensive, but here is a link to their site. I would be willing to bet that you could use just about any 12 volt fan, that you can get to fit and doesn't draw too much current. As far as aftermarket for your machine goes, I have no idea, check ebay. I would willing to bet that you could replace the bearings in the fan though. There should be some #'s stamped into the bearing indicating its size, one number indicates outer diameter, the next inner diameter and the other width. Just make sure you get sealed bearings. 2003 Artic Cat 250 4x4 leaking gas under carb
DirtDemon replied to bosegt's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
I assume this fuel is coming out of one of the hoses coming off of your carb, correct? Sounds like your float is stuck, or the float vavle is not seating properly. You just need to take the float bowl off the bottom of the carb off to get to it. It is easier if you take the carb off, but you can get to it without taking it off on some machines. First though, you might just try tapping the float bowl with a screwdriver handle and see if that helps free up the float. -
2007 Suzuki Vinson blowing ignition fuse HELP!!!!!
DirtDemon replied to dcr31686's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
The first thing you need to do is check all the wiring and switches for damage, or loose connections. It is likely that you have a dead short in the circuitry somewhere. A multimeter will be helpful when trying to chase down electrical problems like this. You may also want to try testing your ignition components, if you have a service manual, there will be some direct resistance tests you can perform on some of the components. If you don't have a service manual, I would strongly recommend purchasing one. -
1994 Yamaha Timberwolf 4x4 Electric Start Problems
DirtDemon replied to bassplayer1972's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
Yamaha is the only manufacturer I know of that has put factory grease zerks on their machines. I don't believe that yours has any though. I could be wrong, you might check the CD Rom manual that you have for lubrication info. Your questions are welcome anytime, we are glad to help.- 18 replies

1998 Arctic Cat 454 4x4 (Water in Engine)
DirtDemon replied to jfkkhi's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
If you get a service manual and the necessary parts, you can save yourself a couple hundred $$. If you have a decent mechanical inclination you should be alright. If you do perform the work yourself, check your valves and adjust if necessary, always best to make the most of a situation. I myself wouldn't think twice about it, there is no way I would pay someone $65 per hour to work on my quads. However, if you aren't very handy with a wrench, then maybe you would be better leaving it to someone who knows their way around an engine. It's just comes down to how comfortable you are working on engines. -
A 2000lb wench is a heavy girl, there is bound to be some ugly stuff under those fat flaps. Sorry, I just had to do it. Wench is an old English term for a lower class/peasant girl or woman, or sometimes used to describe a promiscuous woman or prostitute. A winch, on the other hand is a device usually used on off-road vehicles to aid in negotiating difficult terrain, or getting one's vehicle un-stuck. I am not trying to be an as*, it is just the OCD part of my brain that makes me feel the need to correct some things. However, I think that is a good setup and a good deal for quality products, Warn is as good as it gets when it comes to winches. That other plow, is nice though, but like you said, a bit pricey. I think you made the right choice, now you can actually get some use out of your ATV. It always kills me to see good things like a nice quad just sitting around not getting used. Happy plowing.

You guys crack me up sometimes....

It seems like people would eventually get used to the same weather they get season after season. I totally agree, and I blame the media for alot of that. If there isn't someone getting killed or raped, they will try to sensationalize any thing they can, like REGULAR weather. On the other hand, some people are just stupid and no matter how many times they see snow or heavy rain, they freak out. It rains more days than it doesn't here, and traffic still comes to a screaching hault as soon as the first raindrop falls. It's ridiculous. -
Valves rechrome??? I think you have a classic case of a dealer trying to feed you a big spoonful of B.S. Valve adjustment maybe. I do know that your battery can be a problem when starting fuel injected ATVs. If it isn't fully charged, it won't start because there isn't enough power to run the FI. If you manually add fuel, this would get the motor started and once running the alternator will produce enough power to run the ATV. I think that your problem is that once it has sat for a day, the battery loses enough of a charge to make starting difficult. I would try putting the battery on a trickle charger overnight and see of you still have the problem. If this helps, but the battery won't hold a charge on its own, then you may just need a new battery.

I think your best bet would be to sell your quad and look for a different one. Since you are dealing with a 2wd, shaft driven machine, your choices of a direct swap are probably limited to the motors I mentioned in my previous post. A motor out of a newer Foreman 500 2wd may be doable, but it would take work and would probably not be worth the time, effort and money. Not only do you need the motor it there, but you need all the electrical, the ignition system and the intake, carb and exhuast systems to fit in there as well. A motor swap is more difficult and expensive than most people realize. Things need to be moved, mounts need to be fabricated, and improvisations need to be made. You would really be best just getting a different quad that better suits your needs.

$600 is not a bad deal. If you can get it running for $500 or less, then you have a good quad at a good price. Even if you can't get it running, you can always make the money back by parting out the good stuff on ebay.
-
The solenoid has absolutely nothing to do with the spark. You could be looking at a bad coil ( the one of your recon may not work on the this quad), bad coil wire/plug boot, bad plug, bad stator, sheared flywheel key. If the 300ex CDI works, then you will know that you need a new CDI, otherwise, I would check the list of manuals that Rocky Mtn Honda has posted in the Honda forum and see if your model is listed in there. There are some tests that you can do on the electrical components so you can find the faulty part or at least rule some things out. BTW, I am moving this thread to the Honda forum, for some reason it is in the Yamaha forum now.

The '86 and '87 TRX 350 A seems to have the same crankcase design. It would be a step up in displacement, but I don't know if it would really be much of an upgrade. Are you looking to stick something else in there because you want a better motor, or is there something wrong with the one you have?
-
I agree that adjusting the clutch could help the problem, however, for that to make a difference, there must be a switch of some sort that is keeping the machine from starting if the clutch isn't pulled in. If adjusting the clutch doesn't help, then I would try to find that switch.

Yes, I completely agree with, RMH, you need to figure out exactly what the problem is before you start trying to fix it.
