I definately think Raptor8 will make a good addition to the team, just my 2 cents. I'm sure the Rocky mountain man would be as well, but I don't know enough to really comment on that.

2000 kawasaki lakota 300 ..torque spec?
DirtDemon replied to superchief's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
I stronly recommend you just get a repair manual. There will be other info you need in there. It isn't a good idea to go tearing into a motor without proper instruction. Even the best mechanics will tell you that they use manuals when working on critical parts like an engine. Professionals use factory repair manuals. There is alot more info that you will need besides just torque specs and sequence. Good luck with your rebuild. -
Flipping Tie Rod End's. (Polaris Sportsman)
DirtDemon replied to PolarisRich's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
I don't want to be one to critisize your plan here, but it looks to me like the ball joint is sitting at the end of it's movement there. It looks like any decompression of the suspension would put alot of pressure on the joint causing it to eventually fail or maybe even hit the spindle at full extension. It seems like it would be better to use a wheel with more offset or even a wheel spacer to make the clearance. I could be wrong, is this a common thing that people do to these machines? -
1998 Honda Recon valve adjustment HELP!!
DirtDemon replied to mike13ortega's topic in Honda ATV Forum
There should be an adjustment screw and jam nut that sit right on top of the valves in the rocker arm. Loosen up the jam nut slightly so you can turn the adjuster screw, when you have the screw properly adjusted, hold it still, while carefully re-tightening the jam nut. You will need a feeler guage and the valve clearance specs to do this properly. The specs may be in your owners manual, if not, you should probably get a repair manual anyway if you work on your own machine. -
1992 Honda Fourtrax TRX 300 A; Moose Hand Shifter
DirtDemon replied to Fourtrax_300's topic in Honda ATV Forum
In my opinion, no. I think that your hands should leave the bars as little as possible, you never know when you may be suprised by something like a stump or rock hiding at the edge of a trail. You definately want to be holding on with both hands when things like that happen. BTW, there are different TRX 300's, could you specify your model so we can add it to the title please. -

Bad wheel bearings maybe? -
I would definately try that before buying a Chinese motor, I have never known any one who has a Chinese quad and not had constant problems with it. What year is your trike?
-
Well, that really depends on how you ride it. The stock suspension is sufficient for your average trail rider, but for anyone who likes to ride aggressively, I would agree that a supension upgrade is a good call. The rear shock isn't too bad, but the fronts are not all that great. I did away with my stock 250R front shocks because they weren't cutting it, they are much the same if not exactly the same as 400ex shocks. There are some KFX 450 shocks on there now, the aren't as good as a nice set of aftermarket shocks, but they are a heck of an improvement over the stock ones.

HELP!!! 2000 Kawasaki Mojave won't run.
DirtDemon replied to mike13ortega's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
Your best bet is to get a repair manual. There are some tests you can perform with a multimeter on some of the ignition components. That will either help you find the problem, or atleast rule a few things out. I would double check all wires switches and connections, test for power running through the ignition curcuits, check for blown fuses. You might try a new spark plug. I would also check the flywheel key to see if it is sheared off. -
2004 Arctic 400 4x4 will not show neutral to start
DirtDemon replied to robc101's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
I'm sorry that it took so long to get a reply, you have probably figured it out by now. If you haven't, the placement of the switch depends on if you have a manual or auto transmission. On the auto, I believe it will be on located on the opposite side of where the gear shifting linkage actually enters the case. On the manual, it is located on the side of the gearbox at the end of the shift drum. This is usually on the opposite side of the shift lever on most machines, but depending on how yours is setup it could be on either side. In either case you are looking for a relatively small electrical component, with a plastic casing and wires coming out of it. There will be a pin and likely a spring that comes out when you take it off. It will be held to the side of the case by one or more screws. I certainly think that a gear position sensor, or neutral safety switch is likely to be your problem. Good luck. BTW, I deleted your other thread, since it is kind of redundant to this one. -
1992 yamaha big bear 350 4x4 wire help!!!!!!!!!!!!
DirtDemon replied to fiyaweed06's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
The only thing I can suggest is keep tracking the wire group until you find the red wire, or take the switch assembly apart and see if the red wire was added on, maybe it isn't original. Check the wires at the headlight, is one of them red? -
Pretty knowledgable 16 year old there, try lining up the timing mark on the cam again, there should be a plug you can remove above the flywheel to expose the TDC mark for crank position reference. If you did have the ballancer out and didn't put it in right, the problem you would have is vibration.

Have you checked your fan and/or water pump? How about the radiator, is it clogged with debris, air needs to be able to flow through to carry out excess heat. Also, check the spark plug, you may be running a bit lean, this can cause the motor to run hot. This could be caused by debris in the carb, you may need to take the carb off, disassemble and clean it really good. Good luck.

Got me, maybe a switch of some sort is being shorted when the machine is switched into reverse. If it were me, I would start checking the activity of any relays, solenoids, and actuators related to the 4wd system when the machine is shifted into reverse.
-
I hope you don't have to replace it, but it sounds like that might be the case. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. Good luck.

2004 Arctic 400 4x4 will not show neutral to start
DirtDemon replied to robc101's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
So you are saying that the light just doesn't come on, right? If it starts up ok, then the neutral safety switch must be ok. Have you tried applying voltage straight to the light, maybe the bulb is just out. -
2007 Can Am outlander 400 HO Speedo reads "FAIL"
DirtDemon replied to jgm8806's topic in Can-Am BRP ATV Forum
I am just taking a shot in the dark here, but when electrical and carb problems come together, the first thing I think of is the Throttle Position Sensor. I would give that a look, good luck. -
I think the only thing you will need is wrenches, allen wrenches and a set of feeler guages. If an adjustment is necessary, you will need to get shims to adjust the vavles. The service manual should have all the info including necessary tools in the section that talks about camshaft and vavle service. Good luck, it isn't a very tough thing to do at all IMO, just make sure not to lose anything.

2000 Arctic Cat 300 running issues..Please help!!
DirtDemon replied to fireman2828's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
Check those valves and let us know what you find, good luck. -
I was too hard on it too early, and the outside end of the collar bone started floating again, but it is getting better as I gain strength in the surrounding muscles. I can still ride and do most things I would normally do, I just have to be more carefull and avoid high impact activities, like splitting wood or hitting my heavy bag.

It will still get pressurized along with the crank case, it is directly connected to the crankcase, the breather tube that comes out of the frame is what is supposed to regulate crankcase pressure. When a piston/rings or valve guides/seals get worn, compression leaks by and over pressurizes the crankcase and pushes oil out of the breather. This will also happen if you have too much oil in the machine.

LoneStar is a big one, nice job, and good luck on the next season.

A stock Warrior is not going to be anywhere close to 250psi. 150 maybe, but 250 not a chance. A 250psi machine won't even think about running on pump gas, You don't see 250 psi unless you have a seriously built full drag race motor. A Yamaha Warrior has a very mild engine. As far as your starter goes, I would guess that either the starter clutch is stuck, the solenoid is faulty, bad connection, or your valves aren't opening for some reason, maybe the cam is flat or something. Valves not opening is also the only way I can even think of how you could be getting a 250psi compression reading.

Welcome to the forum, I wish I could offer some advise, but I have never even been inside a Ranger. Hopefully someone has something for you. Good luck.
