I am inclined to agree with Ajmboy, it sounds like you aren't burning enough of the fuel in the combustion cycle, so it burns off in the exhuast making it get hot like that. A clogged air cleaner seems like the most likely thing to me as well. It would explain the stumbling in performance too. Check the air cleaner first, but if that is not the problem, I would check the throttle position sensor next. Also, there may be a sensor inside your air box, it is an air temp. sensor, that could be causing problems too. There is also an air pressure sensor on the throttle body, if that isn't reading properly, it will affect fuel delivery. I assume that the engine temp. light is not coming on, right?

Anyone here have any Pull????
DirtDemon replied to mywifeknowseverythin's topic in General ATV Discussion
We will be arriving on the 23, time all depends on what time we can drag out carcassas out of bed in the morning. I am hoping to be there around noonish, but we will see what happens. As it stands right now, 2 people are coming with me and a 3rd is likely. If anyone else decided to come along they will need to make thier own arrangements for lodging because I can only have 4 people staying in the cabin. I am trying to get my cousin and his wife to come down, but I haven't even been able to get them out on the trails with me once over the past year. They got 2 brand new quads that have only been ridden like 3 times. -
Wow, this seems to be a regular problem with these machines. The previoust poster, Edward67, fixed the same problem by replacing the pulsing coil. It is what generates the ignition signal from the rotor portion of the stator assembly. Click this link and look at part #59026. You may want to shop around a bit for a better price, you may find a better price on Ebay.

1990 Suzuki LTF4WD Not starting (unknown year)
DirtDemon replied to dctaz37's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
You need to figure out where you are losing the compression. To answer your earlier question, yes, the problem should be obvious enough that you can see it. If it is the piston, rings or cylinder walls, there will likely be evidence of excessive wear. You will need to have the cylinder bore measured to determine how big the bore is so you know what size piston to buy. If the piston/rings are the problem, it may be best to have the cylinder bored to the next piston size up from what is in there now depending on what the cylinder walls look like. Your problem may be as simple as a head gasket. You could also be leaking compression because the valves aren't sealing or closing, so, improper adjustment could be leaving one of the valves open thus leaking compression out of the cylinder. Start by removing the valve cover and checking the valve lash. If that is ok, remove the head and inspect the head gasket and look down into the cylinder to check for signs of wear on the cylinder walls. Also look at the valves and seats. Since the compression is so low, you should easily be able to spot the problem. -
Welcome to the site, you aren't the only triker here, so don't feel too alone. There is a forum here just for you trike fans. One of our supermods, Mywifeknowseverything, is also a trike fan. ATC 3-Wheeler Forum » QUADCRAZY ATV Forums

Yes, 3 weeeks is ridiculous, they are supposed to be professionals. It should have been fairly obvious if the cam was the problem. Make sure they don't sell you more than you need. If the cam is bad, then replace just the cam, I would suggest upgrading to a stage 1 hotcam if it needs to be replaced. If it is just part of the decomression mechansism that is not working properly, don't let them try and sell you a whole camshaft assembly with it. It may just be the spring for the decompression cam that sits on the actual camshaft. Ask to see the defective part, or parts before you authorize these morons to do anything. I still think it may be in your best interest to take it elsewhere, if it took them this long to find the problem, do you trust them to be able to fix it properly? What ever you do, I hope you get your quad back and running soon. -

Take it back and take it somewhere else, do not give them a dime, because they are incompetent. They should have this fixed by now. The only thing that makes any sense to me is the decompression mechanism. If it isn't working at all, it will not release compression and the motor will have a hard time turning over. More importantly, if it doesn't stop working like it is supposed to when the motor starts, it would be just like a stuck valve. Since they were suspecting a stuck valve, maybe they need to take a look at the decompression mechanisme again. -
2004 Yamaha Bear Tracker carburetor setting?
DirtDemon replied to EDUARDOFLORES2's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
Your best bet would be to look at a repair manual, or contact a Yamaha dealer for the info. Stock pilot is 42.5 and stock main is 95. 1 1/2 to 2 turns out on the pilot screw is a good place to start. The middle slot is a good place to start with the needle clip postition. See how it runs and make one adjustment at a time to get it dialed in. Pay attention to what your plug looks like while you are getting it tuned. -

I am inclined to think that you are having a fuel problem, but it could be an electrical issue also. What, if any of these suggestions we have given have you checked into? If we know what all you have tried, we have a better chance at figuring out the problem. On top of what I suggested in the last post, I would check your battery, fuel pump and all hoses connected to it, electric choke mechanism, stator output. Check for any obstructions in the fuel line, filter if there is one, you need to make sure there is fuel getting to the carb. -
How about Winchester bay in April? I'm sure MWKE would love to see you two out there, I know I would like to see that big as* machine shooting off the back side of a big razor back. Your broken as* can run the video camera for the rest of us.

2003 Kawasaki Lakota Sport Throttle Problems
DirtDemon replied to verve's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
Good to hear you got it running good again. Keep an eye on the battery though, if you were having trouble before at low engine speeds, that could be an indication that your stator is on it's way out. Once the machine is running, it should run off the stator, the battery should have no effect on performance unless the stator is not producing enough power at low engine speeds, or you had a bad connection somewhere. I would check the output from the stator at an idle just to make sure. If it was just a bad connection that was incidentally fixed when you replaced the battery, then everything should be fine. -

1990 Suzuki LTF4WD Not starting (unknown year)
DirtDemon replied to dctaz37's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
The starter button itself, or the wires that send current to the solenoid are probably resonsible for the start button not working. As far as in not starting, I would say that the lack of compression is the problem. The best thing to do would be to get a repair manual and start tearing the motor down and see what needs to be fixed and if it is worth fixing. -

Stator, flywheel, pickup? -
You should buy a Subaru, I have an '02 WRX with just over 140,000 very hard miles on it, and it still runs like a top. Although, Honda makes the most reliable cars in the world IMO.

So, how are those shocks working out for you?
-
First, take it completely apart. That means EVERY part that comes off. Soaking the metal parts in a bucket of carb cleaner is ideal, but if you don't have a bucket already, they can be expensive. A gallon bucket of Chem-dip goes for like $40 up here. A can or two of regular carb cleaner will do fine as well. Do you best to remove any fuel residue from all areas of the carb and make sure all passages are un obstructed. The best way to make sure everything is clear is to blow compressed air through them. If you can't blow through some of the smaller holes, ie. jets, use a small piece of wire or carefully poke it out with a small drill bit. Make sure all your gaskets and diaphragms are in good shape and throw it back together. You may need to clean the tank and petcock too, and it probably would be a good idea to replace the fuel filter too.

If you really want to get more power out of your Warrior, start looking at things like cam upgrades, have some head work done, big bore or stroker kits, high compression pistons, bigger carb, and exhuast upgrades. Just shop around and find a nice upgrade package that fits your budget. Here is a link to a site that sells parts and does machine work for good prices. Yamaha Warrior performance kit.

Definately looks better, I am a big fan of all black. If I had the money for it, all my quads would be completely black.
