2003 Yamaha Warrior 350 Overheat and Gas/Air Mix Problems
DirtDemon replied to calypsoaz's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
When you test the primary resistance, you should have the meter set to the 20 ohm range, 200k ohm range for the secondary resistance test. If you are not getting the correct readings then I would start with the coil. It really seems like that is most likely the problem given the low output to the spark plug. I would test all of the other components before you go and order the coil just to see if you have any other problems, but I think you will end up finding that the coil or the plug wire is the main problmem. It may be a good idea to check the connection of the plug boot to the coil wire. You may try unscrewing the plug boot and clipping back the coil wire just a bit to make sure you have good fresh wire at the end, then screw the boot back on and try the coil test again. -
If this condition is accompanied by smoking/oil burning, then you probably have leaky intake valve guides or seals. If there is no smoke, then you may have a problem with the crankcase ventilation system, perhaps a clogged filter.

2007 sportsman 500x2 Shutting Off loosing all power
DirtDemon replied to johntdunn3rd's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
Get a multimeter and start trying to find the spot where power is lost, probably a relay or switch. Key switch and/or kill switch maybe. -
1991 Polaris Sportsman 400 Not Charging Battery
DirtDemon replied to yamaman's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
The wire that charges the battery comes from the regulator/rectifier. You should check the stator output like Outlander suggested, if it is putting out sufficient power, then I would think that the problem is either the regulator/rectifier or there is a wiring break or short somewhere. -

I don't really know what to suggest about your problem, but I have noticed that there is more than one person here who has posted about the same problem with the same exact machine. http://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/arctic-cat-atv-forum/7477-2007-arctic-cat-700-efi-wont-run.html http://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/arctic-cat-atv-forum/7343-2007-arctic-cat-700-efi-4x4-digital-display-not-working.html -

2003 Yamaha Warrior 350 Overheat and Gas/Air Mix Problems
DirtDemon replied to calypsoaz's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
Judging by the low voltage at the plug wire, I would guess that your coil or coil wire is your problem. An ignition coil should put out thousands of volts, as much as 20,000 volts. If there is an adjustment for the pickup, it should be mentioned in your manual. There should be a direct resistance test in the manual to test your coil. If the coil tests ok, it could be the voltage regulator/rectifier. -
I am thinking you have an ignition problem, some ignition components will start to fail when they get warm. Ride it until it dies then pull the plug wire off and check for spark. If there is none, start checking ignition parts, coil, CDI, stator, pickup, plug wire, and all wires and switches in the ignition circuit.

January/February 2010 ATV Photo Contest
DirtDemon replied to quadcrazy's topic in QUADCRAZY Contests
I was thinking about entering this contest, but I can't decide which ride to enter, it's either the CR 500 powered TRX 250R, or the Tri-moto 125 recliner. The quad is complete, but the recliner still has alot of work to be done, so I don't know if it really counts yet. -
Welcome to Quadcrazy Juan.

My Dad bought quads for him and me when I was 10, he bought an '86 Suzuki LT 230 Quadsport, I got an '86 LT 125 Quadrunner. I hated that thing, so I spent more time on the 230 once I learned how to use the clutch. I had alot of fun on the Quadsport, so my dad traded the 125 in and got an '89 LT 250R Quadracer, and an LT 80 Quadsport for my little bro since he was getting interested by that time. Later, we traded my 230 on for a '92 Yamaha Blaster. A few years later, my Dad sold off all the quads so he could by a freakin Camaro. I was pissed. I always wanted to get another one, but it just never happened. Then a friend of mine bought a shiny new '05 Raptor 660,and that inspired me to find something. I didn't have much money, so I bought someone elses abandoned project. It was a Honda TRX 250R with a CR 500 motor. He had started building a homemade frame with some square tubing, he built a jig using an '86 TRX frame as a template. He had aquired all the parts, but never finnished building the frame. So I picked it up on the cheap and finnished the project. It has been a work in progress for the last 4 years and has gone through many changes and upgrades. I got tired of working on that thing all the time and never riding it so I bought a brand new '07 LTR 450 about 2 years ago, I love that thing, it still does not have the same break neck power that the CR 500 quad has, but it is reliable, easy to start and the handling is amazing. A little while ago, I got an '04 TRX 450R for an unbeleavable price, it had some problems, but they were minor, and I got that thing running like a champ for less than $100.

I think that the big Rapors, 660 and 700, are the most versitile sport atv's ever built. Tons of power available for haulin as*, but at the same time, the motor is tame enough for a beginner to ride. The power is smooth with no suprises, handling is good, and they seem to be pretty reliable. However, not my cup of tea, it is a great machine, but the engine isn't racy enough for my prefference, and I find myself less comfortable with the high ride height compared to a race class machine.

Welcome back, you didn't mention any more issues, is it safe to assume that you haven't had any more problems over the last three months? -
I like the Jeep better. Never been much of a Ford guy, and Jeep offers a high performance version of the Cherokee.

1995 Honda Fourtrax 300 4X4 Rear Brake Drum Issue
DirtDemon replied to FireTechFerrell's topic in Honda ATV Forum
Please post the year of your machine. Do you have the cover off? There is a cover bolted on over the brake drum. If so, does the drum wiggle at all, or is it completely stuck? Make sure the brakes are completely released, you may try loosening the adjustment screws all the way. Also, there may be a dampener ring in the drum that is hanging up on the shoes. You may find a service manual to be of great help as well. -

2005 Honda 300ex engine parts needed help =(
DirtDemon replied to lazyboy's topic in Honda ATV Forum
If the valve broke off, I would bet that the cylinder walls were damaged as well. Hopefully all it needs is a fresh bore. Lazyboy, if you would, please post the year of your friends quad so I can add it to the thread title. -
What's as* hell? Sounds painfull.

Now that sounds like a good time right there.

2000 Yamaha Grizzly 600 Electrical Problem
DirtDemon replied to Grizz2000600's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
It sounds to me like your battery is not fine, or maybe you have bad cables. The headlight being dim says that it is not getting much juice. The clicking noise you hear is the solenoid trying to activate the starter, but there is not enough power to turn the starter. I would take the battery somewhere to have it tested. If it is ok, start checking connections, then, google voltage drop test, and test your battery cables. -
There is probably an actuator located on the diff housing, I would check the wires and any relays in the circuit as well as the actuator itself. If the light comes on, that makes me think that the signal is getting sent at least to the light, but may not be getting all the way to the actuator.

Is it possible? and if so how would i go about it?
DirtDemon replied to shadow's topic in General ATV Discussion
Laws differ from state to state, but there are some states where you can license them for the street. I would if I could. I would check with the licencing agency to find out what the laws are in your state. -
