RAPTOR 700 or HONDA 450R?????????
DirtDemon replied to mat1994's topic in This vs. That ATV & Off Road Comparisons
I don't really like the Raptors, any of them, but I don't think they are a bad machine, just not my cup of tea. The 660 and 700 are a bit awkward at first if you aren't used to how high they sit, but you get used to it. I have ridden plenty of them, while I still don't prefer one, I can still have a blast on one. They handle well, they do have alot of power, it's just so smooth it's deceptive. The motor isn't racy so you don't feel the pull as much IMO, but before you know it, you're hauling as*. I tend to prefer the 450's because of the racier motors and they "feel" faster to me, more of a rush. Plus, they are more nimble and race oriented. For the record, I am sure that the 700xx is a great machine, it is no coincidence that it has one so many desert races, but my money would be on the Raptor in a drag race, stock vs. stock. The motors are probably comparable in power, but the Honda is just a little too heavy to win if both riders are of equall skill. Of course, I can't say for sure, because I have never ridden a 700xx. I have seen some great prices on them though, dealer by my is selling one for $4700. -
Some metal and a welder. IMO, the easiest way to mount the thing would be to make your own custom mount. That is how I would do it. If you don't have the recources to do it yourself, hopefully you know some one who does. It would end up being alot cheaper and easier.

1989 Yamaha 350 Warrior Head Lights needed
DirtDemon replied to jcole1325's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
Not every situation is going to be the same, my friend has been running the same pair of "auto parts store" lights on his Tecate for the last 6 years with no problems. The lenses are actually pretty thick and durable on thes particular ones. -
I tend to agree with that, if you use alot of body english when you ride, a twist throttle can be tricky on a quad, even if you are used to riding a bike. My friend recently switched to a Banshee from a YZ 125, his Banshee has a twisty on it and he hates it, can't wait to switch it back. I will also say that this is going to be more of a problem for people riding sport quads, since people tend to move around alot more on a sport than a ute. If you really think you will like the twist better, try it, you can always switch back if you don't like it.

Right on, that would be cool.

There may be a filter, your owners manual should tell you where it is. Testing the fuel pump in or out of the machine will probably be inconclusive, since your problem is intermittent. -
Hello, and welcome, it is always nice to see a fellow Washingtonian join the site. I hail from up north in Bonney Lake, near Tacoma.

RAPTOR 700 or HONDA 450R?????????
DirtDemon replied to mat1994's topic in This vs. That ATV & Off Road Comparisons
Right on man, I hope it works well for you. I know you won't be complaining that it doesn't have enough torque. -
Welcome, we always look forward to seeing new faces around here.

I usually catch it when people do that, I must be slipping because of the pain meds.

RAPTOR 700 or HONDA 450R?????????
DirtDemon replied to mat1994's topic in This vs. That ATV & Off Road Comparisons
When you say 115, I assume that's km/h not mph. The Raptor is a good machine, since you already know you like them, I guess it would be a logical choice for you. I would still recommend riding some other quads if you get a chance, you could always go test ride some used ones that people close to you are selling. You may find something you like better, or you may decide that the Raptor is definately your fave. Whatever your decision, I hope you are happy with it. -
Good choice, I am sure you will find it to be a life saver at times. It is very hard to find pdf. downloads for anything but the most popular models. Good luck with what ever you are working on. If you have any questions, please feel free to bring them to us. We will gladly help in any way we can.

Firts off, welcome to the site, it is always nice to see new people here, so I am glad you like it. Seafoam is great stuff, I swear by it as well. I put a little in every time I fill my gas cans up. It helps to stabilize the fuel and prevent deposits from forming. It works well to stabilize engind oil too. I am inclined to agree that you may just have some bad gas that sits on top until you start running low on fuel. I would just drain the tank and start with fresh fuel, adding a little Seafoam to the tank is a good idea too. -
You need a compression tester, they are available at any auto parts store, it screws in to the spark plug hole and you turn the motor over several times until the needle stops going up. It is a good idea to turn the gas off when you do this.

1999 Polaris Sportsman 500 loud and no power
DirtDemon replied to luckyhook's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
Drain the tank completely, make sure the petcock is clear, replace any fuel filters or screens in the fuel line. Last thing, take the carb COMPLETELY apart and clean everything. Use compressed air for any passages that you cannot clean manually. Make sure to blow through the jets with carb cleaner and compressed air, be careful not to blow them out of your hand, they can be hard to find. -
05 yfz 450 cylinder works big bore cylinder
DirtDemon replied to crprestridge's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
I know nothing of any paritcular issues with the Cylinder Works cylinders, I think this guy may just be trying to get you to drop the price. I only know one guy who has run that Cylinder Works bigbore setup on his YFZ and he has not had any problems. -
What you need to do is spend the money and get a repair manual. Check ebay, you can find Clymer manuals all over the place there. $20-$30 is not that much for all the valuable info you get. I believe that a manual is an absolute must for anyone who works on their own machines. I don't know much about your machine, but there are a few users herer who seem to be pretty familar with Artic Cats, hopefully one of them chimes in with something for you. I would still get the manual though.

Depending on how you are losing the compression, it might not take that much $ to fix it. Best case, new piston/rings and a fresh bore = $150-$200. If it needs a head job too, you will be looking at a bit more. Here is a link to a site that I found that does work at a very fair rate and they have special packages just for your machine. Check out the link, they got alot of stuff if you want to hop that thing up a bit. Yamaha Warrior performance kit.

Napa sells a cheap 12v round light, black cased and roughly the same size as the stockers, maybe a bit smaller. A friend of mine uses them on his Tecate, they work great for him. Come to think of it, I have the same lights in the front of my Blazer, here is what they look like. -
Good to hear, a bit strange though that it wouldn't slip in reverse, just forward gears. Anyway, have fun while you still have it.

100 psi is getting to be a bit low as well. It should be around 120-125psi. I think it is time for a rebuild of that motor.
