parts needed for 1990 - 2005 Suzuki LT160
DirtDemon replied to Pumpkin472's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
You are welcome, your best bet for finding a used cap will be a salvage yard or find someone who is parting out a similar machine. By the way, I merged your new thread with this one, the topic is really still the same. -
2003 Arctic Cat 500 auto rear seal problem
DirtDemon replied to Wonderwoman's topic in Arctic Cat ATV Forum
There is a vent, it comes out of the right hand side of the diff at the top if you are looking at it from the rear. It wouldn't hurt to check that first, but I think you may have a bad pinion bearing, if the bearing is worn, the shaft will wobble around and wallow out the seal. A worn thrust shaft and/or collar may do the same thing. Either way, I would dig into the diff case and check for worn parts if it doesn't turn out to be a vent problem. -
Wil a Polaris Sramber 500 do what I want? Is there better?
DirtDemon replied to Puppydog's topic in General ATV Discussion
The Scrambler will be well suited to your needs if you really want a 4wd quad. The Can-am Renegades are better IMO, but probably out of your budget. If power and performance are of a high priority, you may want to consider the Raptor or the LTZ, the Banshee is one of my favorite quads, bit I don't feel that it would be the best choice for your needs. The 400ex is a good machine, bit the LTZ is better in every aspect except maybe reliability. Other machines you may consider; any 450 sport quad except for the ones specifically designed for MX use as they tend to be a bit wide for woods riding. Or any 250 2stroke sport quad, especially the Honda 250R. -
So, I finally got to test the new pipe today, it kicks as*. When I actually got it outside, it seemed like it wasn't going to be as loud as I thought, but after 30 minutes of hard riding, it was noticably louder than when I started. Just as the people at Team Alba advertised, the thing is loud, and power gains are noticeable throughout the power band. There is a notable power increase from bottom to top compared to the stock, unplugged exhuast. As well as a drastic weight reduction. The stock silencer is probably 2-3 times the weight of the Alba. This exhuast seems to make the most of the other mods bringing out the full potential of every thing else I have done. Compared to the slip on, power is much smoother and spread across the powerband, where as with the Lexx slip on, there was a noticeable hit in the mid-range that carried through the top end with no real gain on the bottom end. Bottom end power is now so much better, I am now having a bit more trouble finding traction, even with the GNCC tires, which hook up 10x harder than the stockers or the Razrs that I ran before. Where the machine used to pull the front tires up at will in 1st and 2nd gears, I am now finding a lot of wheel spin, if I want traction, I actually have to make sure not to give it too much throttle. In the upper gears, where traction is easier to find, I find the front tires coming off the ground alot easier, especially when dropping down a little hill, or as I punch the throttle when exiting corners. Overall, I am very pleased with this product so far, especially for the price, only $350 shipped to my door for a full stainless steel exaust system.

A dealer will be able to get you the fuel filter. As far as the cooling fan goes, it sounds to me like it isn't working and when you aren't riding fast enough to get a good breeze going over the radiator, it is going to overheat. Check the wiring, and any fuses. Sit there physically watch the fan while the machine is warm and running, see if it comes on at all. You may have a faulty temp. sensor or fan relay. You might try running power straight to the fan from the battery to make sure the fan itself works.

tether kill switch on a 4 stroke 2003 Polaris Predator
DirtDemon replied to jwints28's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
Well, I think the best thing to do would be to buy an open circuit switch. If you really want to use the kill tether from your blaster you could wire in a Bosch relay that will send power to through one circiut when no voltage is applied and to another when the relay is coil is activated. You can wire the kill tether into either the 12v+ feed, or the ground feed, which will go to termilal 85 or 86, it makes no difference which terminal is positive or negative. Wire the ignition feed into terminal 30 and out of terminal 87a. When the tether is connected, the relay circiut will remain closed keeping power flowing from terminal 30 to terminal 87a and the ignition will stay on. When the tether is pulled, it will close the circuit and energize the relay coil, switching the current flow to terminal 87, which is not used and therefore opening the ingnition circuit, killing the engine. If you need further clarification, google Bosch relay, or SPDT relay. -

Well, good luck to you, I am sure you now know why it is not such a good idea to buy any type of vehicle without a title. The DMV should be able to help you figure out if it is stolen or not, here in WA, we would need to take it to a State Patrol inspection center, they won't tell you anything about it here if it isn't there for them to confiscate if it does turn out to be stolen. Then they would want to know who you got it from, if you have no one elso to pass the buck to then they may just assume that you stole it. If you want a clear conscience, you should atleast try to ask the DMV if they can tell you weather or not it is stolen, if they can't help you, I am sure they can tell you where to go. If it is anything like it is here, even if it isn't stolen, getting that thing registered in your name could be difficult and time consuming at best. Your best option may be to buy a titled frame off of Ebay and swap everything to the titled frame. As long as the numbers on the motor are clean, you will have a legal machine.

1988 Yamaha 350 moto 4 backfiring through carb
DirtDemon replied to mustang69's topic in Yamaha ATV Forum
Timing could be off, valves may need to be adjusted, you may need to clean the carb better. Did you make sure EVERY little passage was clear, how did the gaskets and diaphragms look? You might also check the coil wire for damage and make sure it has good contact with the plug boot. Also, check for any damaged or loose wiring in the ignition system, this includes any switches. Lastly, there are some direct resistance tests you can do to check the ignition components using a multimeter. If you don't have a repair manual, I would strongly recommend getting one, it will have all of the specs for the ignition tests as well as valve clearances and other critical info you will need to properly maintain your machine. -
The DMV is probably the only place that can help you. Why is there not title, are you sure it isn't stolen?
-
They are definately a different part, that is not to say it wouldn't work though. Like Ajmboy said, if all the plugs match up, then it might work. The only real difference may be the manufacturer or it may have an updated timing curve. If it does work, you may have to re set the ignition timing.

There are a nut and bolt that cross at top and bottom of the carrier, parallel to the axle, loosen them up. There are two bolts that stick straigt out from the back of the carrier, loosen the jam nut and turn the bolts to loosen or tighten the chain. When you get the chain properly adjusted, tighten the jam nuts back up and then tighten the larger nuts that hold the carrier still.

Where to shop for your motocross gear??
DirtDemon replied to dirtjunkie85's topic in General ATV Discussion
I am a big fan of Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, they have good prices, great customer service and there are always items on clearance. -
Behind the ignition flywheel is a one way engagement mechanism for the starter, that may not be engaging with the starter flywheel.
-
Yes, worn springs can cause rapid valve stem wear and will lead to the need for constant adjustments.
-
A bad plug boot will do that. If you happen to return, would you mind telling us exactly what kind of quad that is, I am going to assume it is a Quadsport, and will name the title accordingly for now.

Honestly, the rest of the pipe looks to be pretty well constructed, I called RM and they said it was a common issue with the pipe, and they are actually changing the way they rivet that side of the muffler on. It fit well and performed well, they just made a small design flaw. My friend has the same pipe on his TRX 450 and has not had any problems with it yet. If they are able to get the rivet thing fixed, I would still recommend it for anyone who wants cheap performance. Any way, the more important thing is that my Alba pipe came today and I put it on fired it up and made a few preliminary adjustments to the fuel controller. This thing is loud, I would not recommend for anyone who wants a quiet or "legal" pipe. Alba warns of this and claims 105 db, I guess they have a quiet core and spark arrestor for it though. I will have a ride report after the weekend, here are some pics of the new pipe on my dirty as* quad. New and stock header. New and stock silencer. New exhuast on quad.

crank bushing 2007 kawasaki brute force 750
DirtDemon replied to ksinc's topic in Kawasaki ATV Forum
Good luck, I know that particular part is listed with the clutch on most machines, It is called the primary drive gear collar on machines with a manual clutch. I checked the drive converter parts list for the brute force, there is one large bushing listed there, but looks like it goes in the middle of the converter assembly. Try calling a dealer tech, not a parts counter clerk, but someone who actually works on the machines, they should be able to help. -
You probably need to adjust your chain. If it is too tight, it will cut into the roller when the suspension compresses.

Well, the low dollar Lexx slip on exhuast delivered a great performance increase over the stock uncorked muffler, but it started coming apart on me, the rivets started coming loose and the back of the pipe started coming off, and I lost a spring. Sent it back with the P.O.S. Moflow airbox lid and used that paypal credit towards a Team Alba full race exhuast. Made my own airbox lid by cutting out the stock lid and attatched a piece of Outerwears material to the hole with high temp RTV silicone, works much better and is much less expensive. Will post pics when I get the new exhuast, probably tomorrow or Thursday.

1999 polaris xplorer 400 no rear brakes
DirtDemon replied to rubber_side_down's topic in Polaris ATV Forum
Brakes need to be bled, get a cheap brake bleeder kit from a place like harbor frieght, it will make the process much easier. I made my own vacuum bleeder with a meat injector syringe and a piece of fuel hose. This kit will work well, but I think they have less expensive ones. Or, you could just do it the old fashioned way and pump the brake pedal, hold it and open the bleeder nut, and repeat, over and over and over and over........ Brake Bleeder and Vacuum Pump Kit -
Take the plug out, ground it against the motor and crank the machine over, see if there is a spark when you let off of the starter. That could indicate a problem with the pickup coil. Have you tested the other components, like the coil? You might also try checking the coil wire and plug boot. Unscrew the boot and make sure it makes a good connection with the coil wire, trim the insulation back a little if necessary.

Also, to answer your earlier question, bad gas could definately be your issue. If it sat for a year, I would definately get rid of the gas, clean the tank and make sure the petcock is clear. There is a screen in the tank that goes over the peckock, make sure that is clean too. When you clean the carb you need to clean EVERYTHING. So you may have missed something when you cleaned it the first time. Also, your choke mechanism itself could be part of the problem, make sure to take it apart and clean it too.

Looking 4 a new quad any suggestions?
DirtDemon replied to ninhalo5's topic in General ATV Discussion
The Can-Am Renegades are the best comprimise for someone who wants sporty performance and 4wd. But, they are expensive like mentioned earlier. I really think it would be the best thing for you considering what you are looking for, and the 500 will keep up with most of your friends bikes and the 800 will eat most of them up. Polaris also makes a sportier 4wd machine, but you mentioned that you aren't really interested in purchasing a Polaris. The Yamaha Wolverines are also a sport oriented 4wd, but they are a bit underpowered. The Polaris or Yamaha will be much less expensive, but if you have the budget for it, you won't likely be dissapointed with the Can-Am. If I ever bought a 4wd quad, it would definately be the Renegade 800.
